Lake Buluan hosts both Mozambique tilapia (Oreochromis mossambicus) and Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus), with the latter introduced in the mid-1970s and preferred for aquaculture.

The “bangus” raised are milkfish (scientific name: Chanos chanos). This fish, also known as milkfish, is a popular fish in the Philippines and is commonly raised in brackish water, marine, and freshwater environments.
